​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​While the Most Wanted List of Transportation Safety Improvements​ is the primary vehicle for communicating our advocacy priorities, several other safety topics regularly receive the​ attention of our advocacy efforts.

All of these safety topics have been featured on past MWLs and are supported by multiple investigations.

Connected-Vehicle Technology (V2X)

automated vehicles image​​​​Connected-vehicle technology enables commercial and passenger vehicles to communicate with each other, with the infrastructure, and with other road vehicles, such as motorcycles. It is also described as vehicle to everything (V2X), an umbrella term covering the various elements with which vehicles can communicate.

Automated Vehicles

automated vehicles image​​Since the first fatal crash in the United States in 2016 that involved a vehicle operating in automation mode at the time of the collision, the NTSB has investigated numerous crashes of vehicles equipped with various automation capabilities​.

​​​.O5 BAC per se​ Limit

It's been a decade since NTSB has recommended that all states, DC, and Puerto Rico establish a per se blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit of .05 g/dL or lower for all drivers.​​​

Truck image.Commercial trucking is integral to our economy and our American way of life. However, large trucks introduce a disproportionate hazard to passenger vehicle occupants ​involved in a crash due to their sheer size, weight, and physical properties.

Motorcyclist Safety

Motorcyclist image.Motorcycles made up 3% of all registered vehicles in the United States in 2016 and accounted for only 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled. Per registered vehicles, the fatality rate for motorcyclists in 2016 was six times the fatality rate​ for passenger car occupants. In 2016, motorcyclist fatalities increased more than 5% over 2015.
