CAROL Updates

​​​​​​​​​​This July, you’ll have a new experience searching NTSB investigations and recommendations on CAROL and Aviation Investigation Search. Here’s what you will find:

A New CAROL Landing Page

You will have one page with links to all search pages Simple search has been renamed Basic Investigation and Recommendation Search. Aviation Investigation Fields on the Simple Search page have been expanded and are now on the Aviation Investigation Search page. Advanced search has been renamed Custom Search Builder. You can access additional data-related resources at the bottom of the page.

Access the entire NTSB Aviation dataset from 1962-present from any of the search pages.

Basic Investigation and Recommendation Search

​​You can search investigations for all modes or any safety recommendation on this page. For aviation specific fields, use the Aviation Investigation Search.


Aviation Investigation Search

For those that miss the old Aviation Query page, it has been revamped and you can use it to search all aviation accidents, from 1962 to present.

There are many new enhancements for aviation investigation searches, including: 

  • New custom search options (i.e., Phase of Flight, Registration, etc.)
  • JSON and CSV download capabilities rather than XML files
  • Additional fields available on the CSV and JSON downloads, including hyperlinks to investigation pages, reports, and dockets
