Boeing 737 Door Plug Separation Subject of June 24 Meeting

The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public board meeting June 24 to determine the probable cause of the in-flight separation of a mid-exit door plug on a Boeing 737-9 passenger airplane near Portland, Oregon, last year.

On January 5, 2024, Alaska Airlines flight 1282, a Boeing 737-9, returned to Portland International Airport after the left mid-exit door plug departed the airplane, leading to a rapid decompression. Seven passengers and one flight attendant received minor injuries.

During the meeting, NTSB board members will discuss the investigation and vote on the probable cause and safety recommendations designed to prevent similar accidents.

A synopsis of the board meeting will be available afterward. The complete final report will be available in several weeks at ntsb.gov.

Additional factual information is included in the public docket for the investigation. The docket includes reports, interview transcripts and other investigative materials.
