Collision Between Recreational Vessel and Uncrewed Surface Vessel

What Happened

On August 10, 2024, about 2042 local time (eastern daylight time), US Coast Guard Sector Detroit was notified of a collision on Lake Erie, about 2.5 miles east-southeast of Monroe, Michigan, between a 45-foot recreational vessel and a SeaTrac uncrewed surface vessel owned and operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Both vessels were towed to Coast Guard Station Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. There were no injuries, and no pollution was reported. Damages are estimated to exceed $75,000.

The casualty was classified by the Coast Guard as a public/nonpublic casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
