​Glossary

• Defining Event​​: Within the sequence of events for an accident, the NTSB designates one event as the "defining event" for accident categorization purposes. Defining event categories were developed by the Commercial Aviation Safety Team (CAST)/International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Common Taxonomy Team (CICTT).
• ​​General Aviation: General aviation encompasses all US civil aviation operations other than those operated under 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 121 (domestic, flag, and supplemental operations) or 14 CFR Part 135 (commuter and on-demand operations).​​
  
• Phase of Flight: The phase of flight shown is that associated with the defining event. Phase of flight categories were developed by the CICTT.​
