NTSB to Hold Media Briefing for Final Report on 2021 WMATA Train Derailment

​​​WASHINGTON (Jan. 2, 2024) — The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a media briefing Thursday to release the final report on the Oct. 12, 2021, derailment of a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority train in Arlington, Virginia.

An NTSB video animation of the derailment sequence will be shown at the briefing.

The WMATA Blue Line train derailed in a tunnel while traveling from Rosslyn Station toward Arlington Cemetery Station. All railcars remained upright and in-line. All 187 passengers and the train operator were evacuated to Arlington Cemetery Station, and no injuries were reported.
