The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public board meeting May 20 to determine the probable cause of a 2023 fatal crash between a motorcoach and three truck-tractor semi-trailers parked on the shoulder of the rest area exit ramp on I-70 in Highland, Illinois.
On
July 12, 2023, a Prevost motorcoach operated by Greyhound Lines, Inc. traveling from Indianapolis to St. Louis departed Interstate 70 onto the exit ramp for the Silver Lake rest area where it collided with three truck-tractor semi-trailer combination units that were parked on the ramp’s right shoulder. As a result of the crash, three motorcoach passengers died and the driver and other passengers sustained injuries. The truck drivers in the three combination vehicles were uninjured.
During the meeting, NTSB board members will discuss safety issues related to this crash and vote on the probable cause and safety recommendations designed to prevent similar crashes in the future.
