Vice Chairman T. Bella Dinh-Zarr, NTSB
The Vice Chairman will discuss the importance of transportation safety, the role of the NTSB, and the goal of the youth open house.

 

Teen Driving Panel Discussion (9:30 am – 10:45 am)

Moderated by Stephanie Shaw, Safety Advocacy Division, NTSB

High school athlete who is now paralyzed due to a distracted driver.

Jennifer Morrison
NTSB Investigator-in-Charge, Office of Highway Safety, will speak about her job at the NTSB and STEM career opportunities.

Dr. Mary Pat McKay
NTSB Medical Officer, NTSB drugged/impaired driving expert, will speak about street and prescription drugs and the importance of avoiding them when driving.

Safe Driving Simulator and Display Stations (10:45 am – 12:15 pm)

Distracted Driving Simulator
Participate in an interactive learning experience featuring the DRIVE SMART simulator.
Location: Promenade at L’Enfant Plaza

NTSB Research Lab Display
View first-hand some of the research activities the NTSB conducts during a crash investigation, including analysis of black boxes and crash remnants.
Location: Board Room

Law Enforcement Display
View a law enforcement presentation and learn about law enforcement tools and strategies.
Location: Promenade at L’Enfant Plaza

NTSB Investigators
Learn how the NTSB investigates accidents, such as the Amtrak crash in Philadelphia, the boat lost in the hurricane, the dump truck collision in Maryland, and others.
Location: Board Room

Viewing of Teen Driver Safety Videos, including Fletcher’s and others

 

NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind (1:30 pm – 2:00 pm)

(Introduction by Janet Brooking, Executive Director of DRIVE SMART Virginia)
Administrator Rosekind, a recognized fatigue expert, will discuss fatigue and drowsy driving, warning signs, and ways to make sure that you are alert and aware behind the wheel.
