On Monday, April 28, 2025, about 6:21 p.m. pacific daylight time, a Segway Xyber electric bicycle (e-bike), operated by a 16-year-old with an 18-year-old passenger, was traveling east on West Eugene Avenue in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada. At the same time, a 2017 Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling south on North Jones Boulevard approaching the intersection with West Eugene Avenue. The pickup truck was occupied by a driver and a front-seat passenger. Daylight conditions were present, the sky was clear, and the roadway was dry. North Jones Boulevard is a four-lane divided roadway with one left turn lane in each direction at the intersection with West Eugene Avenue. The posted speed limit is 35 mph. West Eugene Avenue is a residential street with a 25-mph speed limit and a stop sign regulating traffic at the intersection with North Jones Boulevard.
The e-bike did not stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, colliding with the right front door and panel of the pickup truck. Both occupants of the e-bike were ejected onto the roadway. The e-bike operator was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas for treatment. Both occupants of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries. The impact deployed the pickup truck’s passenger-side head curtain airbag, seat-mounted torso airbag, and front occupant seat belt pretensioners.

According to the manufacturer’s data, the e-bike had a top speed of 35 mph and could accelerate from 0 to 20 mph in 2.7 seconds. Its maximum payload was 408 pounds.
Parties to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation are:

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation while the NTSB determines the probable cause, with the intent of issuing safety recommendations to prevent similar events.
