Collision of Bulk Cargo Vessels African Buzzard and Pac Dubhe

What Happened

On March 23, 2026, about 1540 local time (central daylight time), the bulk cargo vessels African Buzzard (flag: Bahamas) and Pac Dubhe (flag: Singapore) collided on the Lower Mississippi River at mile 124.5 near New Orleans, Louisianna. Both vessels went aground and suffered substantial hull damage, estimated to be at least $4 million. There were no reports of pollution or injuries. The Coast Guard has declared this incident a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
