On March 1, 2026, about 1033 local time (central standard), the towing vessel Isabel Pluck was pushing deck barge CBC 214, which was carrying a crane, when the top of the crane's boom contacted the underside of the Africatown Bridge (US highway 90), which crossed over the Mobile River, near Mobile, Alabama. After the contact, the barge became temporarily lodged under the bridge until crews were able to self-extract it at about 1515 the same day. No pollution or injuries were reported. Initial damage estimates to the bridge exceed $2 million. The crane was also damaged. There was no damage to the vessel or barge. The US Coast Guard has declared this incident a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
