Flooding and Sinking of Fishing Vessel Night Hawk

​On October 16, 2025, about 1525 local time (eastern daylight time), the commercial fishing vessel Night Hawk struck a protective cell near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, Florida. The vessel began taking on water and sent a distress VHF radio call. A response boat from US Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg assisted and evacuated the three crewmembers from the Night Hawk. The Night Hawk sank outside the navigational channel. The vessel had 6,500 gallons of fuel on board, but no pollution was reported. No injuries were reported. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge sustained no damage. The Coast Guard has declared this incident a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
