Capsizing and Sinking of Fishing Vessel Ricardo & Roel

What Happened

​On July 12, 2025, about 0659 local time (central daylight time), the 106-gross ton commercial fishing vessel Ricardo & Roel capsized and sank in the Brownsville Shipping Channel, Brownsville, Texas. Two crewmembers were aboard. The captain was fatally injured, and the other crewmember was safely recovered from the water. No pollution has been reported. The US Coast Guard has declared this incident a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
