On April 27, 2025, at 1502 local time (central daylight time), the port propeller and propeller shaft of the bulk carrier American Integrity was damaged when the ship grounded as it departed Gary Harbor in Gary, Indiana. The US Coast Guard was first notified of the incident on May 1, while a Coast Guard marine inspector was overseeing repairs to the vessel. Damages are estimated at $1.5 million. There were no injuries, and no pollution was reported. The Coast Guard has declared this incident a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
