Collision of Ginny Stone Tow with Tanker Isla De Bioko

What Happened

​On April 27, 2025, about 2055 local time (central daylight time), the towing vessel Ginny Stone was building a tow in a fleet on the left descending bank of the Lower Mississippi River near mile 110.7, near Harahan, Louisiana, when it and seven barges moved off the bank and into the river. The seven barges collided with the northbound Panama-flagged chemical tanker Isla De Bioko, breaking free from the Ginny Stone tow. One barge, SCF 1023, loaded with urea fertilizer was damaged and sank. There were no injuries and no pollution was reported. Damages to both vessels are estimated to exceed $500,000.
