On March 6, 2025, about 1047 local time (eastern standard time), the towing vessel Miss Linda was pushing the crane barge CEN605 downbound in the Portland Channel at mile 605 on the Ohio River near Louisville, Kentucky, when the crane on the barge contacted and severed several Louisville Gas & Electric power lines, eventually coming to rest against an unsevered powerline. The power lines were grounded, and the tow was able to get underway and moored at a fleeting area near the McAlpine Locks. There were no injuries and no pollution was reported. Damages are expected to exceed $500,000.
The US Coast Guard has declared this incident a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
