This information is preliminary and subject to change.On January 15, 2025, at 0948 local time (Alaska standard time), the 57-foot-long commercial fishing vessel Tanusha capsized and sank 23 nautical miles southeast of Old Harbor, Kodiak Island, Alaska. The two persons aboard entered a life raft and were rescued by the Good Samaritan fishing vessel Victory. One person sustained a minor injury. The vessel, valued at $950,000, was a total loss.
The Coast Guard has declared this incident a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
