On December 5, 2024, about 1030 local time (eastern standard time), the US Coast Guard was notified that the South Korea-flagged Ro/Ro (vehicle carrier) Morning Menad had struck the corner of the dock between berths 10 and 11 at the Dundalk Marine Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland while attempting to moor. The vessel’s starboard fresh-water tank and forward void space were damaged during the contact, and the vessel subsequently ran aground in the area outside the Dundalk Terminal East Channel. The pier’s concrete structure, a bollard, and a light post were also damaged during the contact.
There were no injuries and no pollution was reported. Damages are expected to exceed $500,000. The Coast Guard has declared this incident a major marine casualty. The Coast Guard will lead the investigation, and the NTSB will investigate and determine the probable cause.
