Fire at Goose Pond Colony Marina

What Happened

​​​On December 3, 2024, at 0612 local time, a recreational vessel owner at Goose Pond Colony Marina in Scottsboro, Alabama, called 911 to report that several recreational vessels were on fire. Local firefighters responded, containing and extinguishing the fire. There were no injuries. Seven recreational vessels moored at the marina were destroyed in the fire, and an additional ten recreational vessels nearby sustained minor heat and fire damage. Oil and gasoline sheens were present post incident. About 200 gallons of oil were released from the boats. Containment booms were later deployed to contain fuel and debris pollution. Damages exceeded $1,529,000.

What We Found

​Our initial investigation did not identify significant transportation safety issues. We determined that additional investigation and use of resources are not warranted at this time. We have produced an investigation close-out memorandum, which can be found in our docket.​​
