On September 18, 2024, about 2030 local time, the 87-foot-long yacht The Admiral caught fire while moored in Basin A of the Del Ray Landing Marina in Marina del Rey Harbor, Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, California. The vessel partially sank at the dock. There were no injuries. An estimated 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel were discharged. Damages were estimated at $1.5 million.
Our initial investigation did not identify significant transportation safety issues. We determined that additional investigation and use of resources are not warranted at this time. We have produced an investigation close-out memorandum, which can be found in our docket.
