On January 14, 2024, about 0245, a person living onboard a vessel moored in boat house 25 at Central Dock I of the Port of Everett Marina in Everett, Washington, reported a fire in boat house 23, which housed an unnamed, 22-foot-long Spartan Athens recreational vessel (WN8591ST). The fire spread to adjacent boat houses 21 (where a 34-foot-long Hatteras recreational vessel, High Point, was moored) and 25. No one was onboard recreational vessel WN8591ST or High Point at the time of the fire. About 0304, the Everett Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. Boat houses 21 and 23 were extensively damaged by the fire. Boat house 25 had fire damage along the wall next to boat house 23. Recreational vessel WN8591ST sank underneath boat house 23, and High Point received significant fire and smoke damage.
Our initial investigation did not identify significant transportation safety issues. We determined that additional investigation and use of resources are not warranted at this time. We have produced an investigation close-out memorandum, which can be found in our docket.
