On November 5, 2023, about 0619 local time, a boat owner noticed a fire in the cockpit area of the 45-foot-long, Wisconsin-registered private sailing vessel Kate‑Espere and notified the local fire department. No one was on board the vessel at the time of the fire. At 0623, the Racine Fire Department responded to the scene, and, at 0848, extinguished the fire.
Our initial investigation did not identify significant transportation safety issues. We determined that additional investigation and use of resources are not warranted at this time. We have produced an investigation close-out memorandum, which can be found in our docket.
