On March 6, 2023, about 1120 eastern standard time, a fire was reported at the Safe Harbor Great Lakes Marina on Muskegon Lake in Muskegon, Michigan. The fire originated from inside Building 3 of the marina, which had a reported 150 recreational boats stored inside. The Muskegon Fire Department responded to the fire and extinguished it. There were no injuries reported.
The accident was classified by the US Coast Guard as a major marine casualty.
Our initial investigation of this casualty did not identify significant transportation safety issues. The Office of Marine Safety has determined that additional investigation and use of resources is not warranted at this time. We have produced an investigation close-out memorandum.
