On January 4, 2023, about 0900 central standard time, a recreational vessel caught fire at the Pier 11 Marina in Dalton, Illinois, while the vessel was undergoing its winterization process. The fire spread to the nearby 59-foot-long small passenger vessel Skyline Princess, which was laid up for winter. There were no injuries or pollution reported. The accident was classified by the US Coast Guard as a major marine casualty.

​​​Our initial investigation of this casualty did not identify significant transportation safety issues. The Office of Marine Safety has determined that additional investigation and use of resources is not warranted at this time. We have produced an investigation close-out memorandum.
