On October 22, 2022, about 2108 central daylight time, a fire broke out at the Peninsula Marine Service Shipyard in Port Bolivar, Texas. The fire appeared to have originated on a wooden sailing vessel and spread to the offshore supply vessel Ms Monica. Five local fire departments responded, and the fire was extinguished.
The accident was classified by the US Coast Guard as a major marine casualty.
Our initial investigation of this casualty did not identify significant transportation safety issues. We determined that additional investigation and use of resources is not warranted at this time. We have produced an investigation close-out memorandum.
