On June 9, 2022, at 2100 eastern daylight time, a fire was reported at the Safe Harbor Marina at Podickory Point in Annapolis, Maryland. The fire damaged four moored, unoccupied recreational vessels and caused about 525 gallons of diesel fuel to be discharged into the water. No injuries were reported.
The accident was classified by the US Coast Guard as a major marine casualty.
Our initial investigation of this casualty did not identify significant transportation safety issues. The Office of Marine Safety has determined that additional investigation and use of resources is not warranted at this time. We have produced an investigation close-out memorandum.
