​​On April 11, 2011, about 2006 EDT, Air France fight 007, an Airbus A380, F-HPJD, collided with Comair flight 293, a Bombardier CRJ701, N641CA, while the A380 was taxiing for takeoff from John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK), Jamaica, New York. At the time of the accident, the CRJ was stationary with part of the airplane on the Comair/Delta parking ramp and its tail extended onto taxiway M. The CRJ was waiting for ramp clearance to its parking spot. There were no injuries to the 485 passengers and 25 crewmembers on the A380, nor to the 62 passengers and 4 crewmembers on the CRJ. 

Both the A380 and the CRJ sustained substantial damage. Flight 007 was operating under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 129 and the CRJ was operating under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 121.          ​

​​​We determined the probable cause(s) of this accident to be: the A380 flight crew's inability to identify that the wingtip path of their airplane would not maintain safe clearance from the CRJ701. Contributing to the accident was the failure of the CRJ701 flight crew to advise ATC that they were stopped with a portion of their airplane still extending onto the taxiway.    ​
