 NTSB to Meet on Washington Metrorail Accident

​WASHINGTON — The National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of a fatal Jan. 12, 2015, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Metrorail accident, during a board meeting here scheduled for May 3, 2016.

On Jan. 12, 2015, at about 3:15 p.m., Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Metrorail Southbound, Yellow line, train 302, with about 400 passengers on board, stopped after encountering heavy smoke in the tunnel between the L’Enfant Plaza Station and the Potomac River Bridge. Train 302 was unable to return to the station before power to the electrified third rail was lost. The passengers on the train and at the L'Enfant Plaza station were exposed to the heavy smoke as they self-evacuated or awaited rescue. One passenger died and 91 people were injured.
