On Friday, August 22, 2025, about 12:20 p.m. eastern daylight time, a 61-passenger 2005 Van Hool T2145 motorcoach was traveling east on the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90/I-90) near Pembroke, Genesee County. The motorcoach was en route from Niagara Falls, New York, to New York City, New York. The motorcoach, operated by M & Y Tours, Inc. of Staten Island, New York, and occupied by the driver and 53 passengers, departed the travel lanes onto the right shoulder. It then continued left across both eastbound travel lanes, entered the vegetated center median, reentered the eastbound travel lanes, yawed counterclockwise, and rolled onto its right side. The motorcoach came to rest with its front end on the shoulder and edge of the eastbound roadway, about a quarter mile east of mile marker 404.0.

As a result of the crash, five motorcoach passengers were fatally injured. The driver and 48 passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

At this location, I-90 is a divided four-lane asphalt roadway with two 12-foot-wide travel lanes in the east and west travel directions, flanked on both sides by paved asphalt shoulders. The east and west travel lanes are separated by a median about 84 feet in width. The posted speed limit was 65 mph.
