The private pilot, the sole occupant in the airplane, was not injured. The airplane was being operated under Title 14 CFR Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local flight that originated at approximately 1430. The pilot had not filed a flight plan for the flight.

The pilot said that he was flying off his Federal Aviation Administration restriction time for new homebuilt airplanes. He said that he forgot to put the landing gear down for the landing. Postaccident examination of the airplane revealed that both wing spars were bent, and the wings were wrinkled.
