NTSB investigators may not have traveled in support of this investigation and used data provided by various sources to prepare this aircraft accident report.THE PLT & HER COPILOT/NAVIGATOR WERE PARTICIPATING IN A X-COUNTRY AIR DERBY. AFTER MAKING A REQUIRED FLY-BY AT THE BARSTOW-DAGGET ARPT, THEY TURNED SOUTHEAST TO CONTINUE ON COURSE. A SHORT TIME LATER, ABOUT 6 MI SOUTHEAST OF THE ARPT, THE PLT DETERMINED THAT THE ACFT WOULD NOT CLEAR OVER RISING TERRAIN, SO SHE LANDED. DURING THE LANDING, THE ACFT NOSED OVER. THE ELEVATION OF THE CRASH SITE WAS APRX 4000 FT MSL.
