On April 24, 1995, at 0830 hours Pacific daylight time, the pilot of a Piper PA-18, N82362, experienced a loss of engine power and made a forced landing near Guerrero Negro, Mexico, in Baja, California. The pilot reported the aircraft received substantial damage and that he was not injured. The aircraft departed Guerrero Negro at 0800 hours for a flight to Punta Chivato, Mexico. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time for the personal flight.

The pilot reported that while cruising along the coastline at 1,000 feet above the ground the engine suddenly developed a roughness and accompanying power loss. The pilot made a landing on a strip of sand that was part of a peninsula. He reported the initial landing was uneventful, but during the landing roll in the soft sand, the main gear tires dragged in the sand and the aircraft nosed over.
