On March 5, 1999, about 1135 eastern standard time, a Fokker F-27F, Ecuador registration HC-BSL, registered to and operated by Aerogal, an Ecuadorian commuter airline, overran the runway when takeoff was aborted at Mariscal Sucre Airport, Quito, Ecuador, while on a scheduled domestic passenger flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and an instrument flight rules flight plan was filed. The aircraft received substantial damage and the pilot, first officer, 2 flight attendants, and 28 passengers were not injured. The flight was originating at the time of the accident.

The pilot reported to Direccion General De Aviacion Civil (DGAC) Investigators that they aborted takeoff on runway 35, before the V1 takeoff decision speed, when vibration was felt in the aircraft. They were unable to stop the aircraft before overrunning the runway.
