Runway incursions continue to be an emphasis item and create an ongoing potential for collisions. Signage, paint, lighting airport geometry, training for pilots, ATC, vehicle drivers, etc. all play into reducing the possibilities. After the near wrong surface landing and near collision at San Francisco International Airport (KSFO), additional attention is needed by pilots and ATC tower personnel. Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) continues to be challenge for pilots and dispatchers alike. NTSB has recommended that NOTAMS be a focus for the FAA to address. None of this is new – these challenges have always been part of aviation risk and require periodic reminders.
