NTSB Announces Agenda for May 8 Youth Open House and Education Day

The National Transportation Safety Board announces the agenda for its third annual Youth Open House and Education Day. The May 8 meeting, being held in conjunction with Global Youth Traffic Safety Month, is a life-saving, empowering conversation to engage youth in identifying solutions for reducing youth highway fatalities, which are on the increase.

For more than 40 years, the NTSB has been an advocate for highway safety improvements for youth. Today, with more cars on the road, more distractions being brought into the car and the first increase in teen driver deaths in several years, youth highway safety is paramount.

Starting at 1:45 pm on May 8, 2013, youth from local schools will gather at the NTSB Boardroom and Conference Center located at 429 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, DC. Students from Michigan, New Jersey, Texas and Illinois will participate and lead issue area discussions via satellite. Below is the agenda:

2:00 p.m. Youth Comments and Overview of Schedule

2:05 p.m. Dearborn, MI – Driver Training

2:25 pm. Edison, NJ - Seat Belt Use

2:45 p.m. Dallas, TX – Distracted Driving

3:05 p.m. Gillespie, IL – Youth Leadership and Impaired Driving

3:25 p.m. 3-D Underage Drinking Movie Presentation

3:50 p.m. Closing by Chairman Hersman

4:00 p.m. Wrap Up – Call to Action – National Organizations for Youth Safety representatives

4:15 p.m. Press Conference, including phone bridge
