Synopsis: The National Transportation Safety Board has received your letter of March 19, 1974, concerning the action taken by the Federal Aviation Administration intended to assure the integrity of the aft cargo door and its actuating system on the McDonnell-Douglas DC-10 series aircraft.
Recommendation: EXPEDITE YOUR RESOLUTION OF THE CABIN FLOORING VENTING PROBLEM SO AS TO INCORPORATE THE FLOORING MODIFICATION BY AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES AT THE EARLIEST PRACTICAL DATE.

Response: THE MANUFACTURER IS STUDYING THE BEST WAY TO ACCOMPLISH FLOOR VENTING, FLOOR STRENGTHENING, AND ADDITIONAL CONTROL SYSTEM PROTECTION. THE FAA IS WORKING CLOSELY WITH MDC ENGINEERS TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS IN EVERY WAY.
