Description

This course was designed to provide current and potential participants in NTSB investigations with information on how to most effectively work with the NTSB. The objective of the course is to provide information to help participants in NTSB investigations better understand the rules, policies, and procedures of the party process used by the NTSB. It will include a discussion of party members' roles and responsibilities, interactions with NTSB, and media relations.

Performance Results

Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the mission, authority, and structure of the NTSB
  • Discuss the definition of a party member, and the rules parties must abide by during investigations
  • Describe the different roles and responsibilities of being a party member
  • Be able to confidently discuss media relations after an accident (from the party member perspective)

Who May Attend

  • Potential participants in an NTSB investigation: Investigative and safety personnel employed by the operator, vehicle manufacturer,  civilian and military agencies, and related labor unions
  • Members of the academic community attending for research purposes
