Executive Summary: A total of 1,670 general aviation accidents occurred during calendar year 2005, involving 1,688 aircraft. The total number of general aviation accidents in 2005 was slightly higher than in 2004, with a 3% increase of 53 accidents. Of the total number of accidents, 321 were fatal, resulting in a total of 563 fatalities. The number of fatal general aviation accidents in 2005 increased 2% from calendar year 2004, and the total number of fatalities increased by 1%. The circumstances of these accidents and details related to the aircraft, pilots, and locations are presented throughout this review.
