STATEMENT BY NTSB ACTING CHAIRMAN MARK V. ROSENKER
ON INVESTIGATION OF SINKING OF THE ETHAN ALLEN

National Transportation Safety Board Acting Chairman Mark V. Rosenker issued the following statement today related to the
progress of the Board's investigation of the October 2 sinking of the Ethan Allen.

Washington, DC --The National Transportation Safety Board is continuing to make progress on its investigation into the recent capsizing of the Ethan Allen in Lake George, New York.  Investigators are gathering and examining documentation coming from both federal and state authorities.

The team is continuing to examine the vessel and is planning to put her back in the water for additional tests and measurements in the coming days.

Although NTSB continues to make progress, the investigative team has not reached any conclusions to date about the cause of this tragedy and has not ruled any factors out.  The team continues to study design, modifications, operations, human factors, rules and regulations, and survival factors.

Future factual updates will be issued when appropriate.

Completion of this investigation could take anywhere from 12 to 24 months.  Safety recommendations may be issued at any
time.
