NTSB INVESTIGATING EMERGENCY LANDING IN LOS ANGELES

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the emergency landing last evening at Los Angeles International Airport by a JetBlue Airways airplane with the nose wheels turned 90 degrees.

JetBlue flight 292, an Airbus A320 (N536JB), was operating as a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Burbank, California, to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, when the flight crew reportedly observed illumination of a caution light upon retracting the landing gear after takeoff.  The airplane landed safely at Los Angeles with no injuries among the 144 passengers and crew.

NTSB investigators from the Board's regional office in Gardena, California, were on scene last evening and are continuing the investigation today.  The Investigator-in-charge (IIC) is Howard Plagens.

Investigators will be examining the airplane, interviewing the flight crew and other airline personnel, and reviewing maintenance and service records.

The cockpit voice recorder and digital flight data recorder have been removed from the airplane and secured by the IIC.
