NTSB SENDS INVESTIGATORS TO CHINA TO ASSIST IN MD-82 CRASH INVESTIGATION

The National Transportation Safety Board is dispatching a team of investigators to assist the Government of China in its investigation of today’s (yesterday in American time zones) crash of a China Northern Airlines MD-82 (B-2138). All 112 people aboard are reported to have perished when the aircraft, operating as flight 6136 from Beijing, crashed into a bay near the city of Dalian. The accident aircraft is one of 35 MD-82s manufactured in China.

Safety Board senior investigator Al Dickinson will lead the team as the U.S. Accredited Representative. He will be accompanied by four NTSB investigators and representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group and Pratt & Whitney Engines.

Information on the progress of the investigation will be released by the Government of China.
