NTSB HOSTS DECEMBER 7 MEETING TO DISCUSS BOOSTER SEAT USE; GOVERNMENT AND INDUSTRY TO ANNOUNCE NEW CHILD SAFETY INITIATIVES

Washington DC -- The National Transportation Board will host a roundtable meeting on Thursday, December 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to discuss what actions need to be taken by the federal government, child restraint manufacturers, retailers, safety advocates, and others to increase the availability of affordable booster seats for use with lap-only belts. Since all older automobiles are equipped only with lap belts in the back seat, this problem tends to impact low-income and minority populations, who tend to own older vehicles.

At 9:30 a.m. the roundtable discussion will break for a press event announcing several new child safety initiatives. NTSB Acting Chairman Jim Hall; Rodney Slater, Secretary of Transportation; Sue Bailey, Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and Mark Edwards, Executive Director of the American Automobile Association will participate in the press event.

Both the roundtable discussion and the press event will take place in the NTSB Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C. The events are open to the public.
