NTSB CHAIRMAN TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCING OPENING OF EGYPTAIR PUBLIC DOCKET


As part of the ongoing investigation in the crash of EgyptAir flight 990, National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Jim Hall will hold a press conference to open the public docket and release a series of factual reports on Friday, August 11, 2000 at 11:00 a.m., in the NTSB's new Boardroom/Conference Center located at 429 L'Enfant Plaza, SW Washington, DC, 20594.

EgyptAir flight 990, a Boeing 767, on a scheduled flight from New York to Cairo, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean about 60 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts on October 31, 1999. All 217 persons aboard the plane died.

The reports to be released Friday are factual and do not provide any analysis. Nor do they determine a cause of the crash. They will include transcripts of the cockpit voice recorder and investigative group reports in the following areas - operations, human performance, aircraft structures, aircraft performance, powerplants, systems, air traffic control, meteorology, maintenance records, and flight data recorder.

The docket will be placed on the Board's web page (www.ntsb.gov). A CD-ROM containing the docket will be available to attendees at the conclusion of the press conference.

Media may have access to the Boardroom for camera setup beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Directions to Board Room: Front door located on Lower 10th Street, directly below L'Enfant Plaza. From Metro, exit L'Enfant Plaza station at 9th and D Streets escalator, walk through shopping mall, at CVS Pharmacy take escalator down one level. Board room will be to the left.
