TWA FLIGHT 800 MOVEMENT OF FUSELAGE RECONSTRUCTION -
OPEN MEDIA OPPORTUNITY AT LONG ISLAND HANGAR AUGUST 26, 1999

On Thursday, August 26, 1999, at 8:30 a.m., the reconstructed section of the TWA flight 800 aircraft will be moved to a smaller hangar at the Calverton, Long Island facility where it currently is housed.

TWA flight 800 crashed, on July 17, 1996, into the Atlantic Ocean about eight miles south of East Moriches, NY, after taking off for Paris, France, from John F. Kennedy International Airport. All 230 people on board perished. The investigation into this accident is ongoing.

The 96-foot reconstruction of the accident aircraft, including the center wing fuel tank, has been strengthened, placed on wheels, and will be rolled a distance of about ½ mile to the new hangar.

This event will be open for media coverage. Reporters, photographers and TV crews seeking to observe and/or record the movement will be admitted through the main gate to the Calverton facility, on Grumman Road, beginning at 7:30 a.m., on Thursday, August 26.

While no pre-registration is necessary, those seeking admittance will be required to present working media credentials.

Note: Please be aware that the movement of the reconstruction may be delayed or postponed should there be adverse weather conditions.

NTSB Chairman Jim Hall will be present at Calverton for the movement and will be available for interviews as time and circumstances permit.
