STATEMENT BY NTSB CHAIRMAN JIM HALL ON
FAA PROGRAM DEALING WITH INSULATION BLANKETS
ON TRANSPORT CATEGORY AIRCRAFT

I am pleased to learn that the FAA has initiated a program to look into this fire-safety issue, which has been of concern to some in the aviation community for at least several years. I agree that this is a serious matter that should be addressed expeditiously, and I urge the FAA to take advantage of the resources of all segments of the federal government, including NASA, the military, the national laboratories, and the Safety Board in this effort.

I cannot comment on the substance of the program until my technical staff is fully briefed on the details.
