Training Center Enhances Skills of Staff and Public

In 2010, 1,269 persons attended courses at NTSB’s Training Center in Ashburn, Virginia. This included 619 registrations from agency employees.  Members of the public also attended sixteen of the dozens of courses taught at the center.

Currently, the Training Center has scheduled 15 courses for 2011.  One of these courses offered will be Media Training for Field Investigators. The one-day course, which will be held in the spring and repeated in the fall, is designed to provide accident investigators with training on media relations. Investigators will learn and/or enhance their on-scene media skills.

The course will include discussions and feedback from real accident scenarios and training based on high profile situations. Participants will be given an overview on the NTSB’s policy on media relations, have an opportunity to discuss their experiences and attitudes about the media and participate in mock, on-camera interviews.

The training center posts a schedule of current courses offered.
