Recently, Public Affairs Officer Keith Holloway took the message “transportation safety is our mission” to the students of Benjamin D. Foulois Creative and Performing Arts Academy in Suitland Maryland. Complete with poster boards of pictures from various accidents and a flight data recorder, he gave the students a glimpse of how the Board investigates transportation accidents. He also shared details about his role as an NTSB Public Affairs Officer, including being on the go-team and how important it is for the messages to be clear and succinct.
“The sixth, seventh and eighth grade students were very interested and intrigued about the NTSB and its mission,” said Holloway. “Many asked very insightful questions ranging from what happens with an investigation when the black box has not been found to how they can prepare for a career at the NTSB. I believe that these students have a bright future in whatever career path they choose. I would not be surprised if in the next 10 years, a few of these young, inquisitive, ingenious minds seek out the NTSB as a career choice.”
At the conclusion of the Career Day program, Holloway distributed safety alerts on teen driving, importance of wearing life jackets and seatbelt and booster seat use to share with their parents and other relatives. There is already rumbling of a repeat visit next year.
