NTSB to Host International Family Assistance Conference

On March 28 and 29, 2011, the Board will host the “Family Assistance:  Promoting an International Approach for the Transportation Industry Conference.”  The two-day conference will be held in Washington, DC at the NTSB’s Conference Center.

Using the 15th anniversary of the Aviation Disaster Family Assistance Act as a catalyst, the first day of the conference will feature a series of high-level panel discussions examining family member needs; the roles of air carriers, vendors, and non-governmental organizations; the responsibilities of governments and their agencies; and the perspective of the media.

The second day will detail specific operational aspects of the NTSB’s Transportation Disaster Assistance (TDA) program, which oversees the four critical aspects of family assistance: notification, dissemination of information, victim recovery and identification, and locating and returning personal effects.  The discussions will be led by TDA staff.
