In March, over 200 participants attended the International Family Assistance Conference managed and hosted by the National Transportation Safety Board’s Transportation Disaster Assistance Division (TDA). This meeting also marked the 15th anniversary of the passage of the Aviation Disaster Family Assistance Act in 1996 which required the NTSB to coordinate family assistance efforts following major aviation accidents. The conference featured panel discussions moderated by NTSB Board Members and presentations by TDA staff members.
“During the two-day conference, attendees from 26 countries representing 129 organizations shared a variety of perspectives on transportation family assistance; that made it a success,” said Paul Sledzik, Director of the Transportation Disaster Assistance Division. “We hope that the attendees will use the information they gained in the creation of family assistance programs in their countries, businesses, and agencies.”
