OSH Committee Preparing Agency Fatigue Programs

The OSH Committee is working to create fatigue management program for the agency. The purpose is to provide education and guidance to staff and managers on managing fatigue.

The updated guidance will pertain to employees while on duty; however, employees may find this information helpful when making personal decisions regarding obtaining good quality sleep and maintaining alertness.

One of the many duties of this committee is to research other organizations with similar missions as the NTSB, that may have fatigue management programs in place. The committee’s goal is to have the new program in place sometime in 2011.

“The NTSB recognizes that a safe and healthy working environment for all NTSB employees is essential to performing our mission to the highest standards,”  said Managing Director David Mayer. We will accomplish this through agency leadership of a comprehensive OSH program that is fully endorsed, visibly supported, and implemented by all staff and management levels. We want to create something that we will be proud to hold up as an example to other organizations struggling with how to manage fatigue,” Mayer added.

The committee is comprised of staff from various offices from within the agency that brings years of hands-on experience with dealing with fatigue.
